🐾🚨 March is Pet Poison Awareness Month! 🚨🐾

Did you know that many everyday household items can be dangerous for your furry friends? Accidental poisoning is one of the most common pet emergencies, but knowing what to keep out of reach can help prevent a trip to the vet!

Here are some common household toxins to watch out for:

🛑 Foods – Chocolate, grapes/raisins, onions, garlic, xylitol (found in sugar-free gum & peanut butter), caffeine, alcohol
🛑 Medications – Over-the-counter pain relievers (ibuprofen, acetaminophen), antidepressants, ADHD medications, and even some pet medications if given incorrectly
🛑 Plants – Lilies (toxic to cats!), sago palm, aloe, tulips, and philodendrons
🛑 Household Products – Cleaning supplies, antifreeze, rodenticides, and essential oils (especially tea tree oil)
🛑 Human Products – Hair dye, nicotine products, vitamins (especially iron and vitamin D), and some cosmetics

🚑 What to do if you think your pet has ingested something toxic? 🚑
🐶 Call us immediately at 757-474-0507
🐱 Contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control at (888) 426-4435 or Pet Poison Helpline at (855) 764-7661

** please note that the pet poison helpline DOES charge a fee per case.

Prevention is key! Keep these items out of paws’ reach and share this post to help keep pets safe! ❤️🐾
